Port tariffs are fees that businesses must pay when using services at Vietnam’s seaports. Below is updated information on fee types, specific rates, and recent changes in 2025 at major ports.

1. Main Types of Port Fees

Vietnam’s seaports apply the following fees for import-export activities:

  • Berth charge: Depends on the vessel’s size and docking duration.
  • Container handling fee: Costs for moving containers from ship to yard or vice versa.
  • Storage fee: Charged for containers staying at the port after the free period (typically 5-7 days).
  • Wharfage fee: Based on the volume of goods passing through the port.
  • Additional fees: Including charges for refrigerated containers, customs inspections, and container cleaning.

2. Fee Rates at Major Ports (Updated 2025)

Here are reference fee rates at key ports (based on preliminary data from May 2025):

  • Cat Lai Port (Ho Chi Minh City):
    • Handling fee: 930,000 VND/20-foot container, 1,580,000 VND/40-foot container.
    • Storage fee: 50,000 VND/container/day (after free period).
  • Hai Phong Port:
    • Handling fee: 900,000 VND/20-foot container, 1,500,000 VND/40-foot container.
    • Storage fee: 60,000 VND/container/day (5% increase from 2024).
  • Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port:
    • Handling fee: 910,000 VND/20-foot container, 1,520,000 VND/40-foot container.
    • Wharfage fee: 20,000 VND/ton of cargo (unchanged from 2024).

3. New Updates for 2025

Recent changes and announcements regarding port tariffs:

  • Electronic payment system: Cat Lai and Hai Phong ports will implement full online payment for all port fees starting June 2025, reducing processing time.
  • Discount at Cai Mep – Thi Vai: Businesses exporting agricultural products receive a 10% wharfage fee reduction until the end of Q3 2025.
  • Storage fee increase at Hai Phong: From July 2025, storage fees will slightly increase to encourage faster container clearance.
