Port tariffs are fees that import-export businesses pay when using services at Vietnam’s seaports. Below is the latest information on fee types, specific rates, and key updates at major ports in 2025.

1. Common Types of Port Fees

Businesses using seaport services will encounter the following fees:

  • Docking fee: Based on the vessel’s size and duration at the port.
  • Container handling fee: Costs for moving containers from ship to yard or yard to ship.
  • Container storage fee: Charged for containers staying at the port after the free period (typically 5-7 days).
  • Quay usage fee: Calculated based on the weight or type of goods passing through the port.
  • Additional fees: Such as charges for refrigerated cargo, security checks, or container cleaning.

2. Fee Rates at Major Ports (Updated May 2025)

Here are reference fee rates at key ports:

  • Cat Lai Port (Ho Chi Minh City):
    • Handling fee: 940,000 VND/20-foot container, 1,600,000 VND/40-foot container.
    • Storage fee: 55,000 VND/container/day (after free period).
  • Da Nang Port:
    • Handling fee: 920,000 VND/20-foot container, 1,550,000 VND/40-foot container.
    • Storage fee: 50,000 VND/container/day.
  • Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port:
    • Handling fee: 900,000 VND/20-foot container, 1,510,000 VND/40-foot container.
    • Quay usage fee: 22,000 VND/ton of cargo.

3. New Announcements and Changes in 2025

Key updates related to port tariffs:

  • Cashless payments: Da Nang and Cai Mep – Thi Vai ports will introduce mobile app-based fee payments starting July 2025.
  • Fee reduction at Cat Lai: Businesses importing production materials receive a 5% handling fee discount until September 2025.
  • Fee adjustment at Da Nang: Quay usage fees will increase by 3% from August 2025 to support infrastructure upgrades.
